For an easier overview, all following steps will be shown using the shell directly rather than via a Web App service.
So I was switching to the official Plex App… looks nice, but has some major flaws: can´t use my magic remote to directly jump to a file position with my pointer, SUBTITLES don´t seem work at all, and most importantly - there is never a feedback from the developers here in the forum… So I tried Xplay and it does everything I want. The LG webOS TV Emulator, which was mainly used for the dynamic parts of this project, grants developers the same type of unprivileged shell access to webOS as a third-party application has. Works like a charm EXCEPT for one thing: subtitles… for whatever reason Smartshare can´t access and display subtitles.
In the past I simply used LGs SmartShare app to access local media and even the Plex Server via DLNA. So i´m stuck with an 2015 WebOS 1.4 LG TV and just setup my own Plex Server on a raspberry Pi 3…had Plex server on my Windows10 PC before but wanted an “always on” solution, the PC is wasting too much energy if “always on”. I´m absolutely delighted to see that somebody really cares about their users and the development of it´s own product… way to go !
